Thanks for trying ChessMAGIC! on your BBS!
╔════════════════════════════╗
║ ATTENTION REGISTERED SITES ║
╚════════════════════════════╝
Your 90-day free minor/major update period starts April 27th, 1992, if
you registered prior to this date! We felt this was only fair, since
earlier ChessMAGIC! versions were not stable.
If you do not have a current registration key file, call Decibel BBS,
so you can stay up-to-date!
==============================
Follow these simple steps to make ChessMAGIC! installation as easy as
possible:
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ NEW ChessMAGIC! SETUP │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
1. If setting up ChessMAGIC! for the first time, create a ChessMAGIC!
system directory from which your chess door will be run.
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ UPGRADING EXISTING ChessMAGIC! SYSTEM │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
1. Delete the CMAGIC.CFG and CMAGIC.ERR files, if upgrading from
versions prior to 1.8x series.
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ NEW SETUP & ALL UPGRADES │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
2. Into the ChessMAGIC! system directory, extract all of the archive
members from the following self-extracting distribution archives:
CMAGI83F.EXE
CMSED32A.EXE
CMSED32B.EXE
CMSED32C.EXE
If you do not have all of these archives, you may download whatever
you need from Decibel BBS.
3. Run INSTALL to compile the CMSED.EXE file. When properly compiled,
the *.00? modules will be deleted.
4. Run CMSED.EXE to prepare your ChessMAGIC! system. This applies to
both new and upgrade systems. CMSED will create any database files
that it finds are missing. No pre-existing data will ever be lost.
5. Run UPGRADE to finalize the ChessMAGIC! installation. This process
extracts all file members from the following self-extracting
archives:
cmproto.exe
cmhelp.exe
misc.exe
Once the file members have been extracted, these archives will be
deleted.
6. Now, run LOCAL to test out the new ChessMAGIC! system. This
completes your ChessMAGIC! installation or upgrade!
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ BBS TYPES DIRECTLY SUPPORTED │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The following BBS user file formats are DIRECTLY SUPPORTED by the
current version of ChessMAGIC!:
door.sys - WildCat! v3.x, GAP v5.x, generic & others
callinfo.bbs - WildCat! v2.x
pcboard.sys - PCBoard v14.5 & v12.0
dorinfox.def - RBBS, QBBS & others
generic.sys - A simple user system file that ChessMAGIC! can
utilize (not recommended).
Sample DOOR.BAT for systems using DOOR.SYS format:
d:
cd \doors\cmagic
* cmagic DRIVE\PATH\door.sys
* NOTE: If not in your default directory where ChessMAGIC! is run,
you MUST specify the DRIVE\PATH to your system's user file!
┌─────────────────────┐
│ CMPROTO.DAT │
└─────────────────────┘
CMPROTO.DAT will contain the file transfer protocols you wish to make
available to your users. You may list up to 10 protocols, one per
line. Following the protocol batch/alias information, you will
include a comma, then a short protocol description of up to 25
characters.
ChessMAGIC! will pass two parameters:
%1 = port number
%2 = file name
For several popular protocols, port numbers are defined in the
environment by using the SET command (e.g. SET DSZPORT=2 for DSZ,
tells it to use port 2 -- DSZ defaults to using port 1). However,
you may specify this parameter in your protocol batch file or
alias.
The file name being sent to your users by ChessMAGIC! will be
passed as the %2 parameter.
The distribution archive contains a sample CMPROTO.DAT file and
several preconfigured transfer protocol batch files. The following
examples describe use of CM_Z.bat in your CMPROTO.dat file:
1. Using an alias (e.g. cm_z) as configured in 4DOS, only it and
the description are necessary.
cm_z,Zmodem
Your cm_z alias could be defined as:
alias cm_z `dsz sz %%2`
2. The full drive\path and BAT extent are specified:
c:\util\CM_Z.bat,Zmodem via DSZ MobyTurbo
Your CM_Z.bat definition could be as simple as:
dsz sz %2
3. CM_Z.bat is found within the normally specified PATH, so the
command line can be abbreviated:
CM_Z,Zmodem MobyTurbo via DSZ
As you can see, it all depends on your own system requirements. The
distribution archive contains sample protocol batch files.
┌─────────────────────┐
│ ATTENTION │
│ Sysops! │
└─────────────────────┘
For those of you running a system not directly supported by ChessMAGIC!,
use QKDOOR2F.EXE by Chris Hall. This utility converts your user files
from one format to another, enabling you to use ChessMAGIC! at once, with
little additional effort. If you have trouble locating this utility,
call Decibel BBS.
Qkdoor is easy to run and doesn't even need to be configured (you can
delete the QKDOOR.CTL file -- it isn't required). Run it where your user
information files for the required node are located, using a simple
command line:
qkdoor wwiv d:\cmagic\gap {WWIV}
This will read in the user file data (in default area when run) and
generate the DOOR.SYS file in your CMAGIC system directory (use whatever
path suits your system setup).
After conversion to DOOR.SYS format, your ChessMAGIC! command line would
be as simple as:
cmagic door.sys
An example DOOR.BAT file when using this converter follows:
qkdoor wwiv d:\cmagic\gap
d:
cd\cmagic
cmagic door.sys
